thank you volunteers!

Faith in Action Community Connection is a network of volunteers throughout the area who are matched with people who need help.

We ask that our volunteers attend a basic orientation and fill out a registration form. Orientations may be arranged with the Volunteer Coordinator at any time. Basic orientation takes about one hour. Click here for more information on volunteer training and our schedule.

Be a volunteer driver:
Rides are needed for medical appointments, ongoing treatments such as dialysis or radiation, and to go to the dentist, eye doctor, grocery store, post office and to do other errands. Rides are also needed for social outings, volunteering, to get to the food pantry, to go to the library or to take a pet to the vet.

Some volunteers help a neighbor as they go to or from work. Volunteers sometimes are required to escort the person in to the appointment; please let us know if you cannot do this.

Currently drivers are needed in the following communities:
  • Blue Hill

  • Deer Isle/Stonington

  •  Ellsworth

  • Franklin

  • Hancock

  • Lamoine

  • Otis/Mariaville

  • Sorrento

  • Sullivan

  • Surry

  • Trenton

We also currently need an occasional driver in the Green Lake area for rides to Bangor and Brewer and in the Steuben area for rides to Ellsworth.

Be a friendly visitor: stop and a visit a lonely neighbor once or twice a week. These visits can be brief (30 minutes to one hour) and should be made on a regular basis. Simple reporting is required by the volunteer and the volunteer must have completed the Visitor Training or an equivalent.

Run errands or pick up prescriptions: These volunteers pick up needed items for the home bound.

Grocery shopping: This may entail transporting the person to the store and helping them get their groceries if they are physically unable to do so alone. Others only require the ride to and from and some help carrying groceries.

Telephone Reassurance: Volunteers call the homebound on a regular basis to check on well-being and to chat. They may be asked to call every day at a certain time or to call occasionally. Simple reporting is required.

Handyman: We sometimes have requests for help with simple home repairs such as fixing cupboards or a step, replacing worn carpet, winterizations such a insulating windows, or changing light bulbs. We have also helped with ramp installations.
